This Privacy Policy explains how the Whirlpool PDF Search Chrome extension handles user data.
Overview
Whirlpool is a browser extension that helps users search PDFs for exact and related terms, including text inside scanned images.
Whirlpool does not sell user data, does not use user data for advertising, and does not use user content to train any AI models.
Chrome Web Store Policy
Whirlpool strictly complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Your data is only used to provide the features you interact with.
In accordance with these policies:
- Encryption in transit: Any data transmitted to external services is sent over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- Human access restriction: We do not allow humans to read your data unless we have your explicit consent (e.g., for technical support), it is necessary for security purposes, or it is required to comply with applicable laws.
Strictly Local Processing
Whirlpool is built with a privacy-first approach. All PDF parsing, text extraction, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), and searching happen entirely locally on your device within your browser.
Whirlpool does not send your PDF files, document contents, or search queries to any external server, cloud service, or external AI provider.
Data Whirlpool handles
Whirlpool only handles the data necessary to provide its features:
- PDF files you choose to open and the text extracted from them for search purposes.
- Your search queries.
- Extension settings and preferences.
- License key and license status.
Storage
Whirlpool stores your settings and license key locally using browser-provided storage. Your search index is built locally and is not uploaded anywhere. We do not operate our own sync servers for your data.
If Chrome Sync is enabled in your browser, Chrome may sync extension settings between your devices. Chrome Sync is provided by Google, not by us.
License verification
If you enter a license key, Whirlpool stores it in your browser storage.
To verify your license, Whirlpool sends only the license key to Gumroad. Gumroad processes that request according to its own terms and privacy policy. No PDF data, filenames, or search queries are sent during this process.
Version and notice checks
Whirlpool may contact ceres-assistant.com to check version information, update notices, or product messages. These checks are used to show extension-related notices and do not send any user PDF data, search queries, or personal data.
Data sharing
Whirlpool shares data only when needed for a feature you choose to use.
This is limited to:
- Sending a license key to Gumroad when you verify a Gumroad license.
- Checking ceres-assistant.com for version information or notices.
We do not share any user data with advertisers.
Analytics
Whirlpool does not include an in-extension analytics system for tracking user activity inside the extension.
Chrome Web Store may provide marketplace-level statistics, such as install counts or store dashboard metrics, according to Google's own policies.
Data deletion
You can delete all locally stored Whirlpool data at any time by:
- Removing your license key inside the extension settings.
- Clearing your browser's extension storage or local storage.
- Uninstalling the Whirlpool Chrome extension.
